The Haunted Hayride (Day 9)

Today’s prompt for Blogtober14 is: Best (or worst) Halloween Memory #TBT

Helene in Between Blogtober

So, if you know me at all, you know that I’m not a huge fan of Halloween. I don’t like scary things. I don’t like dressing up. And honestly, this year I’ll be working on Halloween so I couldn’t care less. BUT I used to love working a Haunted Hayride on my aunt’s property when I was growing up and if they still had it running, I’d totally still work there.

Thanks to to my mom’s Facebook albums (thanks, Mom!), now you can see the only picture I have from the Haunted Hayride. And yes, the guy dressed up like an old crazy hippie is my dad. Makes sense.

I absolutely LOVED working the Haunted Hayride every year, even though it scared the living daylights out of me … and my cousins knew it. It worked like this: People would walk into the bar, pay, get a warm drink and jump on a tractor trailer filled with hay bales. The tractor driver then takes you through the creepy forest, filled with freaky scenarios and crazy people that jump out at you and try to make you shit your pants scream. Oh, and chainsaws. WHY WERE THERE ALWAYS CHAINSAWS?!

For as long as I can remember, I was always the victim in whichever section I was in in the woods. I used to think it was because I screamed really loud, but honestly, it’s because I was so easily scared. I would be doing a scenario over and over and over and EVERY TIME I’d somehow get scared. I’m the biggest baby that’s ever walked this earth.

It was so much fun, though. For every Friday and Saturday in October, we’d bundle up and pile into the woods with a bunch of friends and family and have a great time. Unfortunately the hayride became more expensive to run that it was worth, so it’s no longer happening, but it’s the only time I can remember really enjoying Halloween. (Except when I got to be a pink flower and go trick-or-treating one yet – that was pretty sweet.)

Here’s a couple of other Halloween pictures, just for good measure since I’m trying to be all Halloweeny and stuff. Trust me, I’m judging myself really hard on these costume choices. This is why I don’t do Halloween. #college #liestheskittlescostumewaslastyear

I think from now on I’ll stick to being a pink flower – way more fun.

Oooooh it would be so fun to work at the haunted hayride! I’d be all about that too, although I think I would be a little scared too. I’m not a big fan of Halloween and dressing up, but I like a good haunted house or corn maze. I’m a big scaredy cat but I love the thrill!

When it comes to holidays, I’m a Christmas girl, but I don’t hate Halloween … I just don’t really do anything for it. 😉
