Milwaukee Reunion

Guys, I’m so sad it’s Monday. I mean, I love my job, but I’ve been waiting for this weekend for WEEKS and I swear it just flew by. I suppose that’s normal. So instead of going and drowning my sorrows in an entire box of Trader Joe’s artichoke ravioli with arrabiata sauce again (not that I did that last night or anything …) I’m going to remind myself how lucky I am to have had such a fun weekend!

I spent Thursday night quickly getting everything ready for my weekend (since I decided starting to pack at 10 p.m. was a good idea) and woke up pretty early on Friday. I took the day off, but still got up at 7:30. I left for Milwaukee around 9 and ended up getting to my hair appointment a few minutes early. And then TA DA! I’m now a blonde after an almost three hour appointment. But more on that in my Treat Yourself Tuesday tomorrow, though you will see a sneak preview in some of the photos below or if you follow me on Instagram.
… Or I suppose if you just look to the right on the screen and see my Instagram slider …

P.S. That photo is 8 a.m. BHC (Before Hair Color)

After that I got caught in traffic (which reminded me why I’m happy I don’t live in Milwaukee anymore) and it took me almost 45 minutes to get to one of the suburbs to meet my friend at the mall. Katie (HI KATIE!) and I ate a late lunch at Panera and then bummed around the mall where I helped her talk herself into buying some cute boots (what, if I can’t buy anything, then I need to help convince other’s to) until it was time for me to leave to get to my other friend’s house. And, per usual, Katie and I didn’t take any photos together because for some reason we never remember to do that. So … you’ll just have to believe me that  we got together. 🙂

I then spent another half hour in traffic to drive like three miles (<— this is my way of convincing myself that I don’t miss MKE) to get to my lovely friend Saige’s house where I immediately ignored her and put on full new face of makeup. Kidding, I didn’t ignore her … I screamed random things to her from the bathroom. We waited a little while before our friend Heather showed up and then set out for our dinner reservation. Well, we stopped at the liquor store first (#priorities) and then drove past Saige’s new job location and ooohed and ahhed about how cool it was.

We started off at Kanpai which is a sushi restaurant in the Third Ward in Milwaukee. Somehow I never ended up there when I worked right down the road and it was SO good. Of course, I didn’t take pictures, but I had a Spicy Tuna roll (that was actually REALLY spicy) and a Green Bay roll (I felt like I needed to represent my city. Also, there was cream cheese in it, so duh.) After that we headed off to Black Sheep which is a super cool, eclectic bar in the Walker’s Point neighborhood. And guess what! I have photo evidence of this one.

(The women, not the drinks, you lushes.)

After that we headed back to Saige’s house, played some weird Pandemic board game that I hated at first and then got really excited about and then spent the rest of the night chatting before Heather had to leave. On Saturday morning, I woke up just in time for Saige and I to run out and get a donut and coffee. Ok, I’m not a huge pastry girl, but I had a Nestle Crunch donut from Cranky Al’s and OMG THANK GOD THEY DON’T HAVE THOSE IN GREEN BAY.

Yes, those are full chunks of crunchy chocolate goodness. I seriously can’t even.

We spent the rest of the day on Saturday blabbing, watching Saige do crafty things (trust me, she would’ve regretted having me help), watching Catching Fire and getting take-out quesadillas. Yum. A little bit later we finally put on real people clothes (well, for me I went from one pair of leggings to a slightly “nicer” pair of leggings) and once our friend Lynnea showed up we took off to … TARGET! So here’s four girls in heels all dressed up at Target. What can I say, we live scandalously on a Saturday night.

So after browsing through makeup and card aisles, we finally went to a very late dinner at Bel Air Cantina in Wauwatosa, which is one of my most favorite restaurants ever. They have a kind of a Mexican fusion type food and I’ll basically eat anywhere with free chips and salsa. After some yummy food (that I spilled all over my white shirt, mind you) and a nice margarita, we headed out to find a place to get a drink (which took FOREVER because I was crabby and didn’t want to make a decision) and finally ended up at Cafe Hollander. Then we all headed back to Saige’s where Heather and Lynnea left and Saige and I stayed up until 3:30 a.m. talking. So, you know, the norm for us. 🙂

Sunday started off a little late and I ended up stopping at Trader Joe’s to pick up some things because I lovvvvvve it and miss it. I also grabbed myself a Potbelly Mediterranean sandwich for the ride home. P.S. Green Bay – get a TJs and Potbelly now, please. I spent the rest of the day not moving off my couch and eating the aforementioned artichoke ravioli.

And that’s my weekend! It went by way too fast and I miss my friends so, so, so much, but I’m grateful that they took time out of their lives to spend with me. I hope I see you again soon, ladies!

What did you do this weekend?

  1. Katie says:

Love it! I was in Florida with my family for the weekend. I would love to move to the twin cities so I could be near more friends/fun restaurants/trader joe’s. however the traffic and hassle it takes to get to point b from point a drives me crazy!!
