A Christmas Survey!

It’s almost Christmas and one thing I love *almost* as much as Christmas is surveys. So when I found this one boppin’ around on the blog world, I figured I’d put it up on a day where I had no true content today!

Egg nog or hot chocolate?
$5.50 Skinny Peppermint Mochas! Ok, that’s not one of the choices. Well, I hate egg nog. That’s a lie. I’ve never actually tried egg nog so I just assume I hate egg nog. So, hot chocolate it is!

Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Santa wraps presents and puts them on very specific sides of the tree. All of my ornaments/presents go on the right side of the tree and all of my sister’s on the left. The rest of them (and my parents/dogs/cats/birds/horses/guinea pigs/other zoo animals) go in the front of the tree.

Colored lights on tree/house or white lights?
Well, this depends. My parents are all about the colored lights all over the tree, fences and house. My tree at my apartment (that Santa bought me last year – thanks Mom! Santa!) has built in white lights and I prefer that. I also have white lights all over my apartment, but those will probably just stay up year round.

Do you hang mistletoe?
This has never been a “thing” with my family. Even my extended family has never dappled in mistletoe. Maybe nobody wants to get sucked into kissing someone they don’t want to? Who knows. Maybe someday I’ll get into mistletoe, but eh. Not for me.

When do you hang your decorations up?
So, normally I wait until the day after Thanksgiving, but this year I gave in about a week early. I KNOW, I KNOW! I was having a rough couple of weeks and I thought getting Christmassey would help. And you know what? It did. #noshame

What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Hmm, this is hard. I’m actually not that into holiday food. To be honest, I usually get sick every time I eat at the holidays. I normally don’t eat very heavy, buttery foods (I know, THE HORROR) and I have a very sensitive stomach, so I have to be careful at the holidays. I will say that I do love stuffing, ham roll-ups (the ham with a pickle/cream cheese all rolled up) and OMG please keep spinach and artichoke dip away from me.

Favorite holiday memory as a child?
Probably reading my sister Christmas books on Christmas Eve and watching Scrooge (aka A Christmas Carol, but we call it Scrooge) with my family (though my mom is usually in her sewing room/kitchen finishing up last minute Christmas presents).

What is on your Christmas wish-list?
A puppy.

Oh, you mean a realistic Christmas wish? Ummmmm, I just really need clothes. I hate buying myself clothes (mostly because I’m still trying to convince myself to lose weight, so I don’t like buying clothes that I hope won’t fit in a few months). Or if someone could pay off my student loan debt. Who has a realistic wish-list anyway?

Do you open gifts on Christmas Eve?
Not religiously, no. My sister and I used to open a gift from each other on Christmas Eve, but last year we didn’t. I guess it depends on the mood. The majority of our gifts are opened on Christmas morning.

How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
My sister, dad and I head out with one of our dogs to go pick out a tree early in December and then spend the rest of the afternoon decorating it. It’s a crazy mess of different ornaments that our family has accumulated forever. My tree at my apartment has a bit more of a theme (blue, silver, white), but I might change that up next year.

Snow? Love it or dread it?
On Christmas, I want a white Christmas (which I’m not sure we’ll have this year). It covers up all the dead brown looking crap outside. But I hateeeeee cold weather and bad snowstorms, so yeah. I don’t mind the snow if it isn’t disrupting my travel plans.

Real tree or fake?
I love real trees. I didn’t get a fake tree until I started living on my own and found out that apartment complexes are grinches and don’t allow real trees. (Something about fires … whatever, grinch.) My family always get a balsam tree every year. I currently have a six-foot fake tree, but nothing compares to the real thing.

Do you remember your favorite gift?
This is tough. No? See, I usually go shopping with my mom so she just buys me what I say I like, haha. I’ve also never had a boyfriend who cared enough to think a little bit into what he was buying me. My last BF just asked me to send him an Amazon link every year and he’d order it (though I did get a pretty nice hair straightener out of that deal …) So, every gift is my favorite! My mom always gets me nice clothes which is great because I don’t buy myself clothes like ever. My sister always gets me funny things. My best friend always gets me something I love (though mostly I just love seeing her). I will say that I had a bf in middle school that got me a really pretty necklace so … he wins for most favorite gift because I still remember it!

What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?
Remembering what it’s truly about. I love getting the Christmas tree with my dad/sister and watching Scrooge with them. I always cry watching the movie because it makes me remember what it’s truly about. I also love getting people gifts. It’s always way more exciting to give rather than get.

What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Again, I’m not a huge  holiday dessert fan (I KNOW – JESSIE THE GRINCH). I do love chocolate chip cookies, so let’s go with those. The little spritz cookies are good, too. OR how about the Christmas tree reeses pieces? Those are yummy.

What is your favorite tradition?
Christmas tree searching and watching Scrooge.

What tops your tree?
At my parents’ house, it’s a pretty little angel that we’ve had forever. I still don’t have a tree topper, so mine is a red glittery bow that I found in the Target dollar section. 🙂

What do you prefer, giving or receiving?
Giving, giving, giving. I especially love when I find something way before Christmas and buy it because I know someone will love it.

(Also, that question was really hard not to make a #TWSS joke out of …)

What is your favorite Christmas song?
Anything from the Hanson or NSYNC Christmas albums. NO WAIT. Anything from Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Carol of the Bells by TSO is the best thing ever. ESPECIALLY live. I can’t wait to see them on January 2.

Candy canes, yum or yuck?
Regular ones? Yuck. Strawberry flavored ones? Yum.

Favorite Christmas movie?
Hands down, A Christmas Carol (specifically the George C. Scott one). I did watch the animated Disney one last night, but it’s not the same.

I do also like the Grinch with Jim Carrey.

What do you leave for Santa?
Nothing anymore (boo being old)! We used to leave milk and cookies.

Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?
Not so much anymore. Normally we just wake up, mom/dad have coffee and we start opening gifts. Then we clean up and get ready to head to my aunt’s for lunch.

Do you prefer to shop online or at the mall?
I’m more of a mall person in general, mostly because I just don’t always trust online store, especially for clothing. I do love Etsy, though. I didn’t buy anything from Etsy this year. Online shopping is nice for Cyber Monday … I did get something for my sister online.

Christmas card or Christmas letter?
I honestly don’t do either right now. I’d like to do a Christmas letter at some point, but I feel like that might be kind of weird coming from single-old Jessie living in her apartment by herself haha. I actually didn’t get any cards or letters this year … boo! Then again, I didn’t send any so …

What is your favorite Christmas tradition? I can’t believe it’s almost here!
