I’m here, I’m here! I
(barely) survived my 27th birthday weekend, but I’m here! And by survived, I mean that I made it to work, but the amount of brain function I’ll have today is at a minimum. Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday via my birthday post on Friday and on social media. My Twitter, Instagram and Facebook were all blown up when I woke up on Friday, and I appreciate the love. But let’s get into recapping the weekend!
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen a lot of these photos, but at least they’ll now be in context. My long weekend started off with dinner at El Presidente (a newish Mexican restaurant in town) with my mom, dad, sister and aunt on Thursday. After some yummy food (and a large margarita for me), my sister and I hung out at my apartment for awhile and then I went to bed early.
I took the day off on Friday, so I woke up (unfortunately way earlier than I would have liked on my day off) and watched my phone blow up with social media notifications. 🙂 Typical birthday morning! (Convo below is between Michelle and me – we like emoticons.)
In typical Jessie birthday fashion, I was over-dressed and improperly dressed for the weather. Ahh, oh well. Then I was off to lunch with my favorite guy (don’t tell Oliver) at A’Bravo. I didn’t get too many pictures while I was there, but I did get a picture of the cotton candy birthday treat that he asked for for me.
With another sugar high under my belt, we went off to some outlet shops and other stores before dropping me back off at my apartment to pace the halls until Saige showed up. I changed my outfit, danced around to more Pandora and practically peed my pants when my buzzer went off when Saige got there. After a few minutes of hugs and letting Saige go to the bathroom (I had a hard time letting her out of my sight), we left to meet up with our friend Rachel at a restaurant downtown called Red.
I highly recommend Red, by the way. We walked in, the bartender hugged me because it was my birthday and our waitress was outstanding. Not to mention our food was super awesome. We all shared some spinach and artichoke dip and then I had fish tacos as my entree. Our waitress talked us into their mint chocolate flourless cake (#OMGSOGOOD) and followed that up with some shots.
After hanging out at Red for awhile, we headed out to The Standard for a couple of drinks. The Standard is a martini bar with super funny named drinks. I had a Strawberry Fields and some sort of other pink drink.
Unfortunately after a couple of drinks (and running into one of my close friends from college!), we ended up getting super uncomfortable with a crazy guy. I came out of the bathroom to some drunk guy “rapping” to Saige and Rachel. He got very inappropriate, racist and was saying things that you shouldn’t say to people. The irritating thing is that there were three guys at the bar watching us ALL NIGHT and everyone could see how uncomfortable this guy was making us, but no one said anything. Not even the bartenders. So we ended up getting up and running out of the bar, hoping he wasn’t following us. Super creepy! That broke the mood a bit, so we dropped Rachel off and Saige and I headed back to my apartment to have one of our normal “let’s stay up way too late to talk and cry about everything” conversations. Man, I miss that lady. 🙂 Oh, and so does Oliver apparently. He wouldn’t get out of her suitcase!
My body (and stupid cat) thought it would be fun to wake me up at 8 a.m. on Saturday (after a 4 a.m. bed time), so I took a shower and got ready while Saige slept a bit longer. We headed over to The Grapevine Cafe to meet Rachel for a 10 a.m. brunch, and then headed off to a salon to get pedicures and manicures. It was a great time, minus the part where they stuck my hands in wax, put bags over them and then DIDN’T TELL ME WHAT TO DO. I felt like this.
Luckily Rachel helped me get the damn wax off my hands and then off to our wine tasting at Captain’s Walk! If you’re ever in the Green Bay area and want a fun little activity on the weekend, I highly suggest this wine tasting. It was so fun, the history of the building is cool and Helen the ghost even made an appearance (I talked about this in my post on Thursday) by flickering the lights at us.
After a few (seven) generous tastings, we got another glass of wine while we waited for my friend Heather to meet us.
Let’s just say for someone that barely ate any food and doesn’t drink wine very often, I may have been a teeeeeeensy bit tipsy, so we headed over to Rachel’s to let me “nap”
aka drift in and out of drunky sleep on Rachel’s chair and eat some guacamole.
Anddddd unfortunately this is where the pictures stop, ha. And we’re just getting to the best part! I got ready with the ladies and headed over to meet some others at S.A.L.T. for more drinks, more food, more dessert and more shots (technically just one shot from the waitress for my birthday). My friends all sang happy birthday to me (all whispering singing so I wouldn’t get embarrassed even though I still turned tomato red) and the conversation was so much fun. My friends are so funny! I’m so lucky to have them. Since it was five ladies and one guy, we had quite a few people stop over and ask him how he managed to be the luckiest guy on the planet to have all of us. We looked like sister wives.
After dinner, the six of us headed back to my friend’s apartment downtown, my friend Gina entertained the boy with football talk while I danced my ass off with Rachel and Saige to Backstreet Boys. Heather just watched all of us like we were insane. So, perfect pregame activities, really. 😉 We headed out to a nice bar down the street and ended the night there with lots of chatting, dancing and me running into my cousin who I haven’t seen since he was 16. #awkward
After bar close, all of us (except Gina) headed back to my friend’s place, ordered pizza (and breadsticks) and Saige and I decided to show everyone our cheerleading skills. Seriously, how we didn’t break all of Rachel’s stuff I have no idea.
After everyone had enough of Saige and I learning each other’s high school fight songs, we went to bed and all somehow woke up without a hangover. Birthday magic! Saige and Heather headed back to Milwaukee and I went home to nap and eat Taco Bell
because I obviously hate my body. After a couple hours of being lazy, I watched the Super Bowl and went to bed way too late. Enter Zombie Jessie mode today! Totally worth it after this weekend, though. This honestly was one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had and I’m so sad it’s over. I’m going to have a permanent smile plastered on my face for a long, long time. 🙂
Now, back to dieting and exercising (AND SLEEPING), because I’m pretty sure I gained like six pounds this week.
What was the best part about your weekend?
