Looking for a camera

Good morning, friends!

I’ve been on the hunt for a camera for a few weeks now. I used to be into photography when I was younger and (humbly) quite good at it. I’m definitely into scenery / landscape photography the most and I want to start getting back into a hobby that I used to love.

Here’s the problem – I have no idea what to buy! I don’t want to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars because 1) I don’t have that in my bank account and 2) I don’t think it’s necessary to take great photos. When I was in 4-H many many moons ago, I had a Nikon film camera that I lovvvved, but it was a gift so I didn’t pay for it. I’m looking for suggestions, so I’d love any help!

1) High enough mexapixels (at least 16) so that I can have some of my photos printed and blown up to put on the wall
2) Good video capability so I can maybe actually start the YouTube channel I’ve been talking about for a year now
4) Will work better for blogging than just my grainy iPhone pics
3) Not going to make me broke for the rest of my life

Another reason I’m pushing to get a camera is because I go to Ireland in September, and I want to take pictures there (obviously), but I need the quality to be great so that I can blow some of the photos up once I get back. I have this HUGE wall at my apartment that’s just waiting to be filled with photos from Ireland – honestly that’s why I haven’t put anything on it yet! Plus I’d like one for my office at work.

I want to be able to take pics of this!

I’ve heard people love Canons and I’m partial to Nikons (even though I’ve only had one … so I guess I can’t be partial), but let me know in the comments if you have any suggestions! Also, if you have any ideas for other things I should be looking for when buying a camera. It’s been so long and digital cameras are so much different than my film camera that I don’t even know what to look for anymore!

Sorry this post is a bit different than normal, but I figured bloggers probably would be great at helping me find a camera! 🙂

I am actually looking for a better camera as well. I have Sony now, after dropping on the floor a few times, it’s not taking the same quality photos anymore. And having a good camera is very important for bloggers. Good luck, dear. xx

I have a canon g 12, which I don’t think quite fits your specifications, but I really liked it when I used it regularly! I’m going to Chile and Peru in July, so I’m looking for a waterproof/outdoor camera. I’ve got two different ones saved in my amazon wishlist from old recommendations from other bloggers, so I’ll have to see if there are updated versions that will work best for me.

Yeah, we’ll see what I find. It’s a lot more difficult than I thought it would be to find one! Good luck finding one yourself!

I recently got a Canon Powershot SX60.. It’s a bridge camera so in between a point and shoot and DSLR. It’s easy to use, takes great video, has an awesome lens, and is light enough to take with me everywhere. You can find it for about $350, but I find mine on sale for $250. I’m a noobs at photography and it’s been great for me!

Thank you, thank you!! I actually saw some reviews for this one, but I’m glad to hear you like it. Definitely looking into it today! 🙂

Finding a good digital camera is easy, there’s several on the market right now and it can be confusing to find the best one for you but I have reviewed a couple on my website. Check it out, you may see something you like.
