Recommendations for Charleston –> Savannah

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. I’m falling asleep at my desk, so I figured I’d write a quick little post to pep me up a bit. 🙂

I keep reminding myself that this time next week I’ll be in Charleston with Ben and I’m SO EXCITED. I work today and tomorrow, then the college shuts down until next year. I work at the gym on Thursday night and Christmas Eve morning (my last shift – I’M SO SAD), then head to the Packer game with my mom, then up north for Christmas. Back to Green Bay on Sunday for Christmas with my family, then alllll the way to Chicago that night!

Christmas Puppies

This picture has nothing to do with the post, I just really love puppies.

Ben and I have been pretty spoiled since we started “officially” dating a little over a month ago. We assumed we were going to be long distance for awhile, but I’ve seen him once a week and now I’m moving there so … the universe acts in mysterious ways. Anyway, we’re heading out on our road trip on Monday morning and I couldn’t be more excited. I don’t even think I’ve told you guys about it yet!

Monday morning we’re getting up bright and early and driving to Charleston, SC! 🙂 We’ll have Tuesday and Wednesday in Charleston, and then we’re driving down to Savannah, GA (about a two hour drive from Charleston) on Wednesday night. Then Thursday is in Savannah and early on Friday. We’re still deciding if we’re going to extend the trip a day and drive back on Saturday, but as of right now we’re driving back on Friday. Very short trip, but it’s the only time Ben could get extended time off training his clients and this will probably be the last time I’ll have this much vacation time for awhile! We’re super excited.

So, have any of you been to Charleston or Savannah? Any tips? How about any road trippers out there? How do we stay sane?

I appreciate any help!

Hey Jessie! My mom lives right outside Savannah so I’ve been to both Savannah and Charleston many times. In Charleston, I highly recommend a carriage tour so you can see the city. Each tour takes you to a different neighborhood so you won’t get to see everything but you can always go to the areas you weren’t able to see. I highly recommend walking along the waterfront, seeing Rainbow Row (a row of rainbow colored homes), walking through City Market in Charleston and shopping along King Street. Two restaurants I recommend are Poogan’s Porch (supposedly extremely haunted) and Eli’s Table (their breakfast/brunch is amazing!) In Savannah, definitely walk along River Street and have lunch/dinner there. There are tons of restaurants and they’re all pretty good. Also, visit City Market in Savannah (they have cute shops and restaurants) and walk to Forsyth Park (it’s gorgeous as are the homes that surround it). If you’re a Forrest Gump fan you can go to the Savannah History Museum where the bench he sat on in the movie is located. Savannah also has some neat haunted tours that will take you to several haunted buildings. Broughton Street has a lot of the area’s shopping. That’s also where Leopold’s Ice Cream is and it’s awesome! Savannah College of Art & Design also has their own shop in the city with stuff made by students and that’s at 340 Bull Street. If you have specific questions feel free to email me. Hope this helps!!

Savannah & Charleston would be so awesome to visit this time of year! I bet the weather is glorious compared to the Midwest, haha. I’ve never visited either but have always wanted to go! I look forward to all your pictures/snaps of your trip!! 🙂

Man, I wish I had read this earlier! Can’t wait to read about your trip! I really enjoyed the little bit of exploring I did in Charleston the week that I was there and am really excited to get back in February to do a whole lot more exploring in our new hometown! I also LOVE Savannah! Savannah is in Jon’s territory for work and he goes down there pretty often. I think we’ll take a day trip down one weekend. I haven’t gone in years and have been wanting to go back. Also, I’m going to road trip to Wisconsin in a few months with Jackson and I want to stop in Chicago because I LOVE CHICAGO! I would love to meet up with you when we make that trip! As long as you don’t mind children! Haha.

It was SO amazing! I loved both Charleston and Savannah, but the vibe of Savannah was amazing. Have you been to Treylor Park (food) in Savannah? HOLY CRAP SO GOOD! YES!!! Definitely! Let’s meet up when you come through Chicago! I don’t mind children at all. 🙂
