Wedding Wednesday Vol. 2: Little Bits & Bobs

I love using the phrase “bits and bobs” – I blame it on watching a LOT of British YouTubers. 😍

Wedding Wednesday
If you saw last week’s post, I kind of filled you in on most of the stuff we finished. I didn’t get as much done this week because we’re kind of on a stand still until we get some $$ info figured out.

What we’ve done so far:

  • Bought a few inexpensive chalkboards and a pen holder from the Target dollar section + a plastic container to hold it all (I’m assuming I’ll be picking up a few “bits and bobs” here in the next year and a half.
  • Paid for engagement party room rental ($100)
  • We made the decision that we will probably not be getting a wedding planner. 😩  While I’d love one, I have a background in events and I don’t really *need* it. And, quite honestly, The $2000+ on a wedding planner could be used on my dress or multiple other things. I may still hire one of my previous interns to do day of planning for me, just to take some of the stress off. If I had less experience, I would hands down hire one, but since one of my dreams is to plan weddings, why not start with my own?!
  • Gotten TONS of recommendations and ideas from friends who are willing to borrow me things and/or gave ideas on ways we could cut costs
  • Had a crying fit because I felt like Ben didn’t want to get married because he’s freaked out about $$ (lollll #happyengagement we’re good now)
  • Bought “things” off Etsy for my bridesmaid boxes. Two girls’ boxes are themed one way, the other three are themed another based on their interests. I CAN’T WAIT TO DO THESE!!
  • Started adding $$ to savings account for wedding budget
  • Applied for credit card that we’ll pay for wedding expenses with (DON’T WORRY – we’ll be paying it off every month. Just want everything to be in one place.) It’s a pretty specialty card, though, so I still don’t know if I was accepted. 🤔
  • Looked through Costco to see what we could purchase there for the engagement party
  • Tried to figure out wedding colors. I’m leaning toward gold, green, white and maybe a pop of purple. Still haven’t decided if the bridesmaid dresses will be purple, though. That’s a lot of color for me!
  • Asked our AMAZING friend Frank to get ordained and be our officiant!
  • Made Facebook event + invited everyone to our engagement party

What’s next on our agenda:

  • Get coffee with Amanda + check out the engagement party room this Saturday (we’re using the party room in her high rise – thanks, friend!)
  • Book the ceremony/reception venue + set the date
  • Find an engagement party dress
  • Find engagement party decoration (will know more after Saturday coffee with Amanda) though I did get a “Yay” ballon 🤗
  • Figure out food for engagement party

Volume 1: Just Getting Started

Anything you’d like to see more of during this journey? Do you like knowing the money side of things? Once I start getting into the thick of things, I’m hoping to do videos + more photos. We’re just in beginning stages.

  1. Samantha says:

I used Rent the Runway for almost all my wedding wardrobe needs. They have rentals between $30-$40 (and up) and it’s all designer dresses, with lots of helpful reviews from other girls. I never wear white so I didn’t want to buy a bunch of white (or mostly white) dresses I’d never wear again.

    • Jessie says:

That’s so true! White is definitely not my color. I might do that for my bridal shower actually… whenever that’ll be haha! I’m hoping to wear red or black to my engagement party since it’s more casual and those are my favorite colors. We’ll see, though. We do have a Rent the Runway store here in Chicago, so it’ll definitely be a last minute decision!

  2. Torry says:

I got all my wedding party dresses from TJMaxx since I knew I would only wear them once I didn’t feel too crazy spending the what 16.99 most of the dresses are!

Also, the target dollar bins are a brides dream! Just wait for the spring/summer I got most of my extras there!

    • Jessie says:

That’s such a good idea! I’m hoping to get dresses I can wear more than once (I love dresses) but if I stick to the “white” theme, that probably won’t go so well haha! Love me some TJ Maxx, though, so that’s a great idea!

Those dollar bins are AMAZING – never skipping over them again.

    • Jessie says:

It’s the best, though I do have to say I’ve been waiting on two of my packages for FOREVER. I’m hoping they’re not lost. I’m thinking the name hanger and possibly robes might be fun to get from there closer to the wedding. I love the idea of a stamp!

  3. Megan says:

The dollar section at Target is AMAZING. I remember getting a ton of stuff from there. Even Dollar Tree too for like some cheap picture frames that nobody is really going to pay attention to. I also really liked Hobby Lobby too because their wedding stuff would go on 50% off sale every other week. And I totally vote adding some purple, haha. I think I was the only person that voted for purple bridesmaid dresses on your IG poll!

    • Jessie says:

Yes, I love the stuff! It’ll be so helpful, but now I’m going to have to go to Target more often to peruse. OH WELL. 😉 I don’t even know where there’s a dollar store or Hobby Lobby here, but I’m sure I can find one. Haha yes! I’m still up in the air about dresses. It honestly might come down to having the girls try them on and seeing 1) How pricey they are 2) how they look on each girl and 3) how comfy they are (I’ve heard some are very scratchy)
