November Updates

Happy Wednesday!

I wasn’t going to write a blog post for today, but I’m trying to keep to a M, W, F schedule (have you noticed?) I planned on doing a Warby Parker try-on haul, but, you know, I’m an amazing blogger and totally forgot to take pics. Just took videos for Instagram stories.

First of all, thank you to all of you that left me sweet and informative comments or texted me about the Hashimotos diagnosis. I did *finally* hear back from my doctor who just suggested more pills (imagine that?!) but I’ve been doing my own research + listening to podcasts and most suggest at least starting out gluten-free to see if that helps. I’m also adding in a Vitamin D supplement (my levels are low) and am planning to either see another endo, or find a thyroid specialist of some sort.

Along with getting in a blogging regimen again, I’ve reintroduced my YouTube channel! If you haven’t already, take a look at my latest video …

Ben and I also filmed a Boyfriend Tag (finally) and Part 1 will be up Friday and Part 2 will be up Saturday ALONG WITH two blog posts on how Ben and I met. I had to break them both into two because they’re both SO long. But any of you that have been following along with my dating life for the last few years, I’m hoping you’ll find it interesting. Plus, Saturday is our one-year dating anniversary so this is my way of celebrating our relationship. โค๏ธ

Client work has been booming with one of my clients who has brought me into a few more of her projects. I’m also reorganizing what I want to do and how I want to do it. One of those things (again) tying into this blog. I love blogging and my YouTube channel and currently they bring me basically no $$ – which is TOTALLY fine. I’ll continue to do this blog/channel even if I never rake in a penny, however if I’m given the opportunity to invest in this and see it grow, I’m going to. I signed up for BossPitch with Coming Up Roses that starts on Nov. 20 and I’m so excited. It was quite the investment, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it. I’m also continuing to coach with Amy (forever if I can ๐Ÿ˜Ž)ย  and have a blogging/entrepreneurship conference coming up in February – so excited!

Anyways, those are just a few of my updates! Have you ever had a dream you’d like to make into reality? What have you done about it?

Coffee Date

Let’s have a coffee date, shall we?

I just read Jordyn’s latest blog (she’s the best by the way – love her blog!) and it inspired me to write a coffee date style post today as well. I feel like I’ve told you bits and pieces of news the past few weeks, but it’s all over the place (as are the frequency of my posts) so let’s just get it all in one area, how about that? Here’s mah face and a coffee so I can prove that I constantly spend a lot of money on coffee and would go on a coffee date with ANY of y’all in a heartbeat.

Coffee Date

I got a new job!

Okay, probably the most important of “news” (LIES, the next one will be) but just in case you didn’t understand it from my Instagram posts, Snapchat (Are you following me? @justjessie23), carrier pigeon, screaming it into the smoggy air of Chicago – I HAVE A NEW JOB!

As you may (or may not, if you don’t read my posts very often …) know, I haven’t exactly been loving my job that I moved to Chicago for in January. I struggled with a three+ hour commute per day only to sit at my desk alone with not much to do, no matter how much I asked. It just wasn’t the right fit for me. I’m all about culture – getting to know my coworkers, seeing smiling people, seeing the outside of the world instead of cube land – and that just wasn’t what I was getting. I knew it wasn’t the right fit after my first day. I came home, hysterically crying to my poor, smiling boyfriend who was trying to figure out wtf was happening to me. It continued to get worse and I continued to feel badly about wanting out so quickly. Finally after months of depressing, anxiety-ridden Sundays anticipating my week, I started looking for options that would be better for me and SOMEHOW it came along quite quickly!

I’ll be working as a Community Manager for a local Chicago tech startup and I’m so excited. I’m equally terrified, but I think that’s a good thing. They offer things like unlimited PTO, CTA passes, lunches with colleagues and bright, open collaborative areas to work. Definitely more my style. PLUS the platform they have is amazing and I can’t wait to learn the ins and outs of it soon. I do foresee it being one of the most challenging jobs I’ve ever had, but I’m ready for it.

We’re getting a puppy!

I thought I was obvious about this one, BUT multiple people have been surprised when I told them. They assumed the puppy pictures on my blog/Instagram were just me filling my life with puppy time since I have such dog fever. FAIR.

I grew up adopting animals, but we did purchase one purebred golden retriever when I was in middle school that was my show dog. Without getting into politics, Ben and I did decide to purchase our first dog and she’ll be coming to us on June 10! Well, really we’ll be going to her – four hours from here to pick her up. I don’t know which one is ours yet (they’re only ~four weeks old) and since we put the last deposit in on a girl, we’ll get last choice. But really … I’ll take any of them. THEY’RE SO CUTE. Plus, seeing Ben with a bunch of puppies? You know how some women feel when they see their BF with children? I’m that way with puppies. My puppy ovaries almost exploded. Although I will be incredibly jealous if the pup loves him more than me. ๐Ÿ™

May-June is nutso!

Last weekend – MKE
5/12-5/13 – Green Bay for my sister’s college graduation
5/15 – Start new job!
5/20 – Cousin’s wedding in Madison
5/26-5/31 – Memorial Day weekend in Wisconsin at Ben’s grandparents
6/2-6/5 – Nashville for a wedding
6/10 – PUP

Side hustle is moving again!

After putting my own business to the side a bit in the last month or so due to stress/applying and interviewing for new jobs, I’m finally back at it! I have a proposal to finish for a company outside of Milwaukee that might have me do work for them occasionally and I recently landed my PERFECT client that I’m so excited to start working with. I’ve decided that I want to continue to grow my blog and YouTube channel (though they’ve been on hold since my mom’s computer that I’ve been borrowing shuts down once every … oh, 30 seconds …) and then offer my virtual assistance and social media management services. So excited to have the time (lack of a three-hour commute helps) and brainpower to be able to get back into doing the things that I love.

P.S. Speaking of ladies with side hustles, check these twoย out:
– Writing/Editing/All Things Wordsmithing: Marette @ Floradise
– Styling/Telling You What To Wear Because You Suck At It (AKA ME): Maddy @ Cassidy Lou

Okay, I’ll stop there. This is why my coffee dates with friends end up being four-hour excursions. ๐Ÿ˜‰

What’s happening in your life?

Let’s have coffee

I love these types of posts. Whether it’s coffee, tea, diet code red mountain dew (my teeth are going to rot off, I swear) … I love getting coffee with a friend and catching up. Since I don’t have many in-person coffee dates planned, let’s have one together!

Coffee Date

If we were having coffee …

I’d tell you about the awesome, life-changing and uplifting trip I had to Chicago last week. Do any of you ever just “click” with someone, something, some place? That’s how I felt with Chicago. I’ve always liked it there, but this last time just solidified things for me. Even a few of you who watched my video noticed how happy I was, which is crazy to me that you can see that!

I’d ask you a million and one questions, because that’s what I do. I love hearing about things happening in my friends lives, whether it’s how passionate they are about their work, a new person joining their family, a funny date story … I love it. So how about you tell me something about you in the comments? I’d love to hear it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d probably spill some of my drink on myself, let’s be real.

I’d tell you about a huge weight being lifted off my shoulders. After over a year of being denied by loan refinancing companies, one finally refinanced my loan based on my credit score instead of solely based on my very low salary. So, my payments were supposed to go up to $867 in January (per month) … and the loan refinancing company cut that in half. It’s a HUGE weight off my shoulders and a little more manageable. Seriously, check out SoFiย if you’re struggling with student loans (or any type of personal debt).

You’d probably ask me about my dating life because, well … that’s what people ask single people. It’s okay, though. I’m used to it. I’d tell you I’m not actively seeking anyone, not online dating, none of that. I’d tell you that I’ve given up on the dating scene where I live a long time ago because I have no intention of staying in the area forever, which obviously hinders my dating life. Now, if you prod a little bit more, I’d probably tell you about someone that currently has my “attention”, so to speak, but I’m nervous about it. Girlย hasย been burned quite a few times, so I am apprehensive. But you would be able to see past the nervousness and see that I’m more excited than nervous. We’ll see what happens. ๐Ÿ™‚ (<— I’m THE BEST at being vague enough that ya’ll will hate me)

I’d ask you your opinion on what to wear for a wedding next month because girl is BAD at making decisions.

I’d ask you about your favorite hair stylist … hair is a big deal for me and I haven’t had mine done in almost a year. Whoops …

I’d tell you about how crazy my November is going to be for work – just the full-time job. I have five events next month, but four of them require overnight travel. Nov. 3: Madison, Nov. 10: Minneapolis (overnight), Nov. 15-18: Chicago (multiple overnights). I’d tell you that I’m excited about it, because getting out of the office and being at my events is the best feeling. Although, you would probably be able to tell that I’m hopeful for new opportunities soon.

I’d tell you that we need to have coffee more often because I miss being with like-minded, fun, energetic, driven people. So, I’d basically beg you to be my friend all the time. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Linking up with Amanda!

I asked you above, but if we were getting coffee, what would you want to talk about? What would you ask me? What kind of drink would you get?

Coffee Date

I love reading these “Coffee Date” type posts, so I thought it’d be fun to do one today for the first time!

Coffee Date

If we were having coffee …
I’d tell you that I tried to do that same side fishtail braid today to my hair that’s in the picture above and it’s already fallen out twice. Apparently my hair is too “soft” today. I know, first world problems.

If we were having coffee …
I’d ask you what type of coffee you get, because I’m always interested to know. I am a baby and want coffee that doesn’t taste like “coffee” (same with alcohol – basically I just want juice) so I’m always willing to find out new ideas to try! My skinny caramel macchiato actually came from a recommendation and now I love it!

If we were having coffee …
I’d tell you that I’m absolutely loving my Brittany Dawn fitness challenge. I’d ask if you’re interested in flexible dieting or a workout program, because she’s spectacular.

If we were having coffee …
I’d probably get super hyper because, even though I drink a lot of caffeine, it still hits me like crazy.

If we were having coffee …
I’d tell you about my “event” tonight. I call it an “event”, because it’s just a quick happy hour at a local bar. Not really my favorite type of event to plan since there’s nothing to it, but that’s okay. In a couple of weeks I’m hosting a hockey event in Milwaukee, so I’m looking forward to that! And I’ll just keep dreaming of this company’s events in the meantime …ย

If we were having coffee …ย
I’d probably talk to you about my birthday this last weekend in Chicago. I’d tell you that my Ireland trip last year really ignited the travel bug in me, and then meeting my friend Julie in Chicago (who travels all over) got me wondering why I never travel. Which would then lead me to tell you …

I just booked the ticket this morning – super good price and only one layover (which will be good for my fear of flying). AND I’LL BE REUNITED WITH MY MICHELLE!

Okay, obviously too much excitement and caffeine. You’d probably be sick of me by now if we were having coffee. ๐Ÿ˜‰ What would you tell me on a coffee date?
