JORD Watches for Men

I was lucky enough to win Marette’s contest on her blog with JORD Watches last month. Since it was close to Valentine’s Day, I used the gift code I won to buy Ben a watch.

I loved the women’s watches, but Ben only has a “workout” watch, so I thought it’d be fun to buy him a nice one that he could wear casually (or really dressed up, though the man is rarely out of workout clothes so …)

The packaging itself is gorgeous, don’t you think?

Ben picked out the Delmar Dark Sandalwood and Blue Carbon watch.

He loves it and I think it’s a gorgeous (in a manly way, of course). It’s different than most watches you’ll find, plus most of them are affordable, especially compared to super high-end brands.

Can’t wait to get one for myself soon! 🙂

Have you heard of JORD watches?

Five Things I’m Loving on Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day, friends! Now, I’ve never been one for celebrating a random day in February with or without a boyfriend, BUT I am all about love. So with that, here are five things I’m loving.

5 Things I'm Loving on Valentine's Day

Just Jessie
Did you know I’ve officially been blogging on here for five years? Crazy! I had a small food + weight loss blog before I started Just Jessie, but I’m so happy I switched over to this one.

I’ve made so many fun connections with new friends and brands in the past five years and I can’t wait to ramp things up this year with making my brand into a business. I’ve decided to finally put my passion and talents to use by providing my own content creation and social media management service. I’m so ready to work hard toward the life that I want!

I lovvvvve this city. I love being able to walk to things or get to places easily (I still need to figure out the trains …) I love the energy of the city and how empowered I feel all the time. I mentioned this in my post back in October when I had my solo trip to Chicago, but this city gives me a sense of excitement and the push to go after everything that I want. I still can’t believe I live here and I’m doing it. I’M DOING IT, GUYS!

Warmer Weather
The weather has been sneakily warming up. Granted, it’ll be 50 one day, then 27 the next BUT IT’S STARTING. Everyone keeps telling me that Chicago is amazing in the summer, and I’m ready to see what that’s all about. Plus, dresses without tights?! I do need to do some spring/summer clothing shopping and shoes shopping, but I’m going to wait until I’ve hit a few goals with my fitness journey.

New and old, I love that I’m able to be around fun people more often. I’ve hung out with more people since I’ve moved to Chicago than I did the entire 2.5 years I lived in De Pere. I’m joking, only sort of. I’m pretty sure it’s close!

I mean, I can’t do a Valentine’s Day post and NOT mention him, can I? 🙂

After being single for over four years, having someone in my life has been a challenge, but a good one. He’s smart, kind, loving, funny and I didn’t know someone like him even existed. But he does and I’m not sharing. 😛

Plus, he feeds me cake and donuts, but also pushes me in the gym. Best case scenario in my opinion.

What are you loving right now?
Are you doing anything for Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day or Single’s Awareness Day OR JUST FEBRUARY 14?

A birthday in transition …

Good morning! It’s officially NOT my birthday (unlike yesterday) and we’re back to “real life” – aka I’m not getting a bunch of sweet texts about my birthday anymore. 😉

If I’m being completely honest, yesterday was hard for me. This month has been all over the place for me emotionally (and physically, let’s be real) so I’ve been up and down for a few weeks. Starting a new job, living out of a suitcase for 3+ weeks (still currently living out of a suitcase, really), figuring out traffic, getting used to living with my boyfriend, then having to move out. Parallel parking … 😉

I’m usually a complete birthday diva, putting together a party with as many of my friends as possible. Last year I went to Chicago with my friend Julie (how funny that I am living here now …) and the years prior I always had parties with as many of my friends as possible. I’m an extrovert, so I love having people around me, ESPECIALLY on my birthday. This month I just couldn’t seem to be excited for the day, though. Not so much because of the age, but more because I feel very unsettled. With the move and trying to get my feet planted here, it’s been a struggle. With that said, it was still a pretty great 29th birthday!

The morning started off rough – I have not been sleeping enough basically since I moved to Chicago, so I was pretty sleepy plus super crabby that I had to work. Work was okay – a pretty slow day and I don’t know many people. I took myself to Chipotle lunch, then got through my afternoon of meetings. After work, I made a quick Target run and then drove back to the city. I chatted with my friend Lindsay for a good hour, so that definitely helped brighten up my mood PLUS seeing all of the texts, FB and Instagram messages.

Ben ended up getting done with work early and made me promise not to go to my apartment without him, so my mind was racing. If you remember, I basically closed the door on Saturday night with everything thrown all over the place in my apartment and haven’t touched it since. We walked over there last night and he had organized the boxes the best he could, plus put together my bed frame and my whole living room. I cried.

Living Room

Ben’s got a weird schedule because of training (usually early mornings, then late nights with afternoons off) so he spent his day putting together my apartment. Like … I can’t. And then he decided that wasn’t enough and got me a bag I’ve been eyeing for MONTHS and showed him in Charleson, but refused to buy it for myself because of the price.

Lululemon Bag

I literally laid down on my bed and stopped talking because I couldn’t handle all the emotions I was feeling. Poor guy. 😉

After I got over my love paralysis (eew, I know, who am I), we went back to his place and then watched Dexter and Parks & Rec. No better way to end my 29th birthday, in my opinion.

Since it’s still January and I’m officially in my 29th year, I figured what better time than to voice a few goals and reflections:

  1. Get back into a routine with working out, meal prep, laundry … just life. I think I’ll feel a lot more settled that way.
  2. Find a way daily to work on me. Being in a new relationship tends to bring out many old demons. Strengthening my confidence in myself, my worth in myself and knowing what I deserve is something I need to work on.
  3. Save some moola. These $5.50 SB drinks stop today (mostly because I’ll be setting up my coffee pot tonight – YUSSSSS)
  4. Make connections in the city. Expanding my professional network is important for my future goals.
  5. Focus on things I’m passionate about. I love blogging. Love YouTube. Guess what I haven’t been doing lately? Either of those things. I need to start to focus on the things that make me tick.
  6. Strengthen friendships. I have a lot of friends/acquaintances in the city which is a big reason I moved here. I want to continue to grow those friendships, since I’ve missed that the last few years living in Green Bay.
  7. Find a way to make travel more of a priority. Travel is not only fun, it awakens my mind and my heart. While this doesn’t go along with #3 so much, I want to be sure I make this a priority.

There’s probably more, but we’ll go with those for now. Birthdays always bring a feeling of a fresh start for me and I’m excited to see what this year has in store for me. I mean, I’m not quite sure how these last few months of my 28th year could be topped, but you never know!

Are you a birthday person or do you prefer low-key?

Day in the Life: My New Chicago Life

Hey friends! I thought it’d be fun to do an updated “Day in the Life” post since my life is quite different these days.

5:15 a.m.: Alarm goes off, I crankily turn it off and snuggle up to my space heater (AKA Ben). He’s feeling extra warm this morning (foreshadowing …)

5:20 a.m.: OKAY GET UP.

5:40 a.m.: Leave for the gym, thankfully I was smart and packed everything the night before. Get gas on my way to work.

6:30 a.m.: Start workout. I did lower body and was feeling kinda weak, but it worked out.

7:30 a.m.: Shower, get ready, talk with girls in locker room (BE MY FRIEND PLZ) and get to work.

8:30 a.m.: Talk with coworkers, meet with my boss to complain about the Packer game (grrrrr) and then back at it.

9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Answer emails, online training, all the work stuffs.

12 – 1 p.m.: Lunch with Matt, my designer for my client. He’s been out the past week, so I’m trying to get to know my team.

1 – 2 p.m.: Work, work, work, work, work, work (aka answer emails, talk with coworkers, online training, stare at the wall … my job is still building up so I’m still kind of slow)

2 – 3 p.m.: Staff Meeting

3 – 5 p.m.: Work, work, work, work, work, work. Ben texts me that he’s sick … I get super worried *eyeroll* Is this what it’s like to be in love? Worry about the other person all the time? My stomach was in knots and it’s just an effing cold. HA!

5 p.m.: Leave at 5 on the dot. Head over to Target to pick up stuff for Ben, then to Chipotle for food for me.

6:15 p.m.: Arrive in Chicago, realize I *may* have over done it with the stuff I got for Ben …

There was also a t-shirt and a few other things not pictured haha.

7-11 p.m.: Netflix and chill … quite literally. Watched a few episodes of Dexter, then Parks & Rec. Get mad at Ben because he won’t kiss me because he doesn’t want to get me sick. Not So Silently pout.

12 a.m.: Sleeeeeps.

Road Trip: Charleston, SC (Part 1)

I am SO sad my road trip is over, but SO excited to tell you all about it. Our road trip was five days, so I’m going to split up these posts the best I can!

So, let’s start from the beginning. On Monday (12/26), Ben and I groggily (well, I was groggy at least) got up, packed up my car and left Chicago a little after 7 a.m. We drove straight to Charleston from Chicago, so it was going to be a long day! I wasn’t feeling the best (a weekend of eating bad food for Christmas had my stomach in a tizzy) but luckily the excitement of the trip took over. The weather was pretty rainy for the first few hours until we got through Indiana. We stopped in Kentucky for a slightly longer bit to eat some PB&J, veggies and sour gummy worms (duh). 🙂

After millions more hours (okay, maybe just 6+) and most of  Aziz Ansari’s audio book “Modern Romance: An Investigation,” we stopped in Asheville, NC at Buxton Hall Barbecue for dinner. SO good! There was over an hour wait which was NOT okay, but somehow we walked up to the bar and magically two seats were open so we snatched those up.

Buxton Hall Barbecue

The vibe of the place was awesome and the food was really good! I wish we would’ve been feeling better, but at that point we had been in the car for over 10 hours and just wanted to get to the hotel.

After a quick snafu with the hotel (so … they didn’t have our reservation – thankfully we called and they had it fixed by the time we go there!) we headed into the last 4-5 hours of the drive before pulling into foggy Charleston a little after midnight. We stayed at the Hyatt House. The hotel was very nice and right on King Street in Charleston, which was wonderful for our couple of days there.

After sleeping in a tiny bit on Tuesday, we headed to get some … can you guess?

We made a stop at Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts a few blocks up King Street and brought a couple of things back to the hotel to eat! 🙂  We ended up getting a sugar cookie donut (my fav), some sort of caramel donut, apple bacon fritter and then an orange glazed donut. So good!

Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts

The donuts fueled a fun little workout (the only time we had to workout the whole week …)

Charleston Workout

We got ready for the day (AKA I put on the worst walking shoes every … #foreshadowing) and then headed over to Hominy Grill for lunch.

Hominy Grill

I got a fried catfish po-boy sandwich (no picture, imagine that) but Ben got the best thing ever – the Charleston Nasty Biscuit with fried chicken breast, cheddar cheese and sausage gravy. I wish I could’ve eaten it! (Ben supplied me with this picture because I suck.)

Once we rolled out of Hominy Grill, we started walking all the way down King Street through downtown Charleston and over to the water.

Photo cred to Ben again ^^

We gingerly walked home (because YO GIRL wore the WRONG shoes – ouch), took a quick power nap and got ready to go out for the evening. We made reservations at Eli’s Table, where we had a couple of drinks and some dinner. I had fish, Ben had a steak and it was really good!

Eli's Table - Charleston

We walked a couple of blocks to Bulldog Tours for our Ghost & Dungeon Tour!

Charleston Ghost & Dungeon Tour

While I’m terrified of the dark and ghosts and cemeteries … the tour was so much fun. I highly recommend going on a ghost tour if you ever go to Charleston! We heard some crazy stories (this is the craziest of them!)

Charleston, SC

After the ghost tour, we headed over to the Pavilion Bar for a drink on the rooftop before heading back to the hotel for the night.

And that’s Charleston! Tomorrow I’ll tell you all about our third day at Magnolia Plantation and the first couple of hours in Savannah, GA!

Have you ever been on a road trip?

eShakti Dress Review

As you all know (especially if you follow me on Instagram …) I am a dress girl. Casual apparel to me is a sweater dress and boots, unless I’m working out. Business casual? A dress. Business professional? Pencil skirt and blazer. Whatever I’m dressing for (unless it’s the gym) I’m almost always in a dress.

A few weeks ago, eShakti reached out to me to try one of their dresses and tailor it to fit me and my style perfectly. Not only was I able to customize the size, but I was able to customize the length (since I’m a short human, this was AWESOME) and other little parts of the dress. I’m always nervous to purchase dresses online because I’m not sure how it’ll fit my exact shape, so I’ll definitely be using their website again. It was an extremely simple process! It took a couple of weeks for my order to process and be shipped and I’m sooooo happy with it! It’s “casual”, yet something I can still wear to work if I dress it up with boots and jewelry.

eShakti Review

Someday I’ll have a professional camera and/or camera man (<— Ben doesn’t know what he’s getting into) but for now, you get badly lit selfies. It wouldn’t be a fashion post from me if they weren’t selfies, am I right? 🙂

I paired it with some lace tights and over-the-knee black boots.

The dress is SO well made. The material is thick and comfortable and there are USEFUL pockets! You understand, ladies. Dresses with pockets are the best, but when the pockets are useful? Amazing.

My only “issue” with the dress was a personal one. I’m not used to wearing high-neck shirts/dresses, so the collar started to bother me by the end of the day, hence why some of the pictures have the buttons undone. I think it looked just as cute undone, so it didn’t end up being an issue.

I’ve worn the dress to work a few times and have had a few coworkers comment on how cute it looked! The dress even passed the Thanksgiving test – didn’t show my food baby AND I still looked presentable. 🙂

Have you ever heard of eShakti? Make sure to check them out on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter! I had hoped to have a discount code for you, but they never sent me one. If I get one in the near future, I’ll highlight it in another post! 🙂

Weekend Recap: Work and Coffee

Good morning! Happy (hopefully) Election Day! I’m excited for this day to be over, but also terrified by what could happen. So … let’s move past that.

Last Friday I came into work and got everything under control after a crazy event weekend. By the time I went home, I was wiped, but I still went to the gym.

Forever 21 Gym Outfit

The rest of the night I spent on the couch and going to bed early. PERFECT Friday night for me.

Saturday I woke up and got ready for work at the tennis courts. Once I got there, there weren’t any courts scheduled so I went and did some cardio and then went home. A little Chipotle for lunch and then headed down to Appleton for an afternoon with my friend, Kelly!

Fashion Nova Jeans

Wore my jeans for the first time EVER, too!

Kelly and I got coffee and “worked” (AKA chatted about life) for a few hours and then headed to get sushi. After sushi, we wandered around the mall a bit before I headed back up to GB.

Because I didn’t get much work done all week/weekend, Sunday was all about my freelance position work.

Hashtag Mug

After a few hours on my couch (with a few breaks for food in between), I headed out to Starbucks to meet my friend Gina for some work time. I chatted with her and got through the rest of my work for the afternoon.

Starbucks Date

I had all intentions of going home and watching the Packer game, but as soon as I got in the car, the first play was the other team getting a touchdown. So I drove to the gym instead. 😉

Lifted Crop Top

The rest of the evening I spent doing a bit more work and relaxing on the couch before an early bedtime. Made waking up early to workout pretty easy on Monday. 🙂

Monday Workout

Then again, I tend to make all of my spelling errors when I snap at 5:30 a.m. *eyeroll*

The rest of the day was spent at work and then bumming around Green Bay with my sister. Now we’re on to Tuesday!

How was your weekend?

New Hair & Wedding Dress HELP

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Tuesdays are always the hardest day of the week for me, for some reason. Usually I’m running on pure adrenaline on Mondays, but by Tuesday, I have to physically push myself out of bed. But I’m here!

Anyways, I got in a spur of the moment hair cut / color last night and … it took 3.5 hours. My hair just pulls yellow like nobody’s business! So a million years of toning later …

Before and After

It’s horrible lighting, but basically it’s a lot darker, with less warmth and more cool blonde. The bottoms are pretty much gray right now, but that’ll wash out and be an ashy blonde. I like it, but it always takes me a little bit to get used to change to my hair – I’m very particular about it!  But most of all, it needed to be cut SO badly – the split ends were out of this world!

Moving on from that, I wrote about my weekend yesterday, but as always, gotta plug the YouTube video. It’s short (what, me do a short video?!) and is just my day on Saturday for Homecoming if you’re interested in watching!

Okay, last but certainly not least … I NEED HELP. I have two dresses (albiet they’re basically the same damn dress …) that I need to choose between for a wedding next month. Normally, I would not care, but for the first time in about, oh, I don’t know … eleventy billion years, I’m actually going to have a date to a wedding (#shocker) so yo girl needs to look spiffy. Which do you prefer?

Dress - which to choose!

And last but CERTAINLY not least, it’s my BESTEST LOVE’S 30th birthday today! <3 Love you, Amy!

Amy's birthday

What is your least favorite day of the week? Favorite day?

Who has time for a sick day?

Good morning! I’m off to a site visit for an event in Madison I have next month, but I didn’t want to leave you hanging. My newest vlog just went up, so if you’re into the whole YouTube thing, I’d love it if you watched! 🙂

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Do you take sick days?
How do you deal with being sick when you have so much to do?

Tutu Tuesday: YouTubin’ it up!

Hi friends! I know not all of you are big YouTube fans, but I’ve been loving the extra platform to express myself besides in writing and selfies. 🙂 Have you subscribed? I’d love it if you did! Or just give any of my recent videos a watch – sometimes it’s fun to “humanize” the blogger!
