Weekend Recap: A weekend HOME (sorta)

Hey y’all! How was your weekend? Do anything fun? Let me know in the comments!

My weekend was really great – we finally didn’t go out *too much* – meaning we stayed in the Chicago-area. πŸ€” Β I never knew I’d become such a homebody, but after weeks of not having time to breathe on weekends unless Ben or I is sick, I really need some time off!

So Friday after work I took the train home and went to Ben’s apartment. His roommate is in Mexico for a birthday, so she won’t be home until Tuesday, meaning we can stay at his apartment instead of my tiny one. πŸ˜ƒ

We hung out a bit, but I was in a super exhausted mood. I ate, then we walked to Ben’s friend’s apartment and hung out with a few people for the night. I was so tired, but it was still a fun time.

Saturday Ben got up for work and I got up a few minutes after he left to get Cora ready to take to the vet. Oh, and I’ve started meditating using the app Headspace and I love it! I’ll probably do a dedicated post soon, but I’m on day 5 (Sunday as I’m writing this) and I love it.

Our vet is out in the ‘burbs, so it was a good 4-hour morning between the drive and the appointment, but it’s worth it. The vet is WAY less expensive than the ones in the city, plus they’re so kind and helpful, especially since Cora has quite the sensitive stomach and is sick basically ALL the time.

Ben got home around 2 pm after work and our little family hung out for awhile, looking at trips (we’ve caught the travel bug like WHOA) and just hanging out together. Cora was sleepy from her shots, so we took advantage of that. Around 6, we hopped in a Lyft to Tuco & Blondie – one of my faves here in the city. I don’t know that I *deserved* a treat meal since I only worked out once this week (lollll) but it was so nice out so who cares if it was deserved or not!

Weekend Recap Weekend RecapAfter dinner we stopped at Jeni’s and got a little treat. (Fun fact: we were supposed to go to an Incubus concert that we bought on Groupon AGES ago, but couldn’t imagine sitting in the car in traffic to get there … #cityproblems Thankfully the tickets were only $20!)

Once home, we hung out with the pup and … BOOKED A TRIP! 🌴

As you might know, we’re going to San Diego/Laguna Beach at the end of August but we actually already booked our SECOND trip to Riviera Maya at an all-inclusive for November and I’m SO DAMN EXCITED. I love that Ben and I are able to travel – it’s always been a dream of mine. I’ll write a post this week, letting you know more about our trips! πŸ€—

Sunday we woke up with Cora and I got in some meditation, then Ben got in some yoga. Much needed zen start to the morning. Unfortunately I had quite a bad headache, so I was trying to push through with that. We both sat on the couch and got some work done before heading out to the suburbs to hang out with Ben’s family.

Weekend RecapWe spent the afternoon with them before heading back to the city. We spent the night making dinner and getting ready for Monday. How did you spend your weekend?

Weekend Recap: Relaxation in Wisconsin

Happy Monday, friends! I mean, it’s super grey and dreary here in Chicago and I’m still pretty sniffly, BUT let’s stay positive and think about the weekend.

I don’t have to much of an update for y’all because I spent the weekend off of my phone and trying to be as “chill” as possible. I came down with an AWFUL cold last week, so I just wanted to work on getting better.

Friday I had a day of PTO, so I slept in a bit with the pup while Ben was at work and then we left for Wisconsin at 11:30. Unfortunately there was already traffic (boo) and we had to stop with Cora a couple of times, so we didn’t get up to his grandparents’ home until almost 4. I spent a little bit of time working on my client work before switching to the driver’s seat so Ben could take a quick nap. Long day in the car!

Once we got there, we played with Cora a bit before heading to a local fish fry place that Ben has been talking about ALL summer to get unlimited cod – super yummy! We took a ride around the country after that before heading back to the house to play with the pup and go to bed early.

Saturday we all slept in (well, Ben, Cora and I did, at least) and it was the first day I felt better. Still sniffly, but not like I was going to die. We went out on the boat a couple of times, ran Cora silly outside and played a few yard games all day. Super chill, super fun, no phones besides for this pic – the only pic I got all weekend!

Ben got up with the sun on Sunday to go out on the boat for the sunrise to fish while Cora and I slept in until about 8:30. We hung out with his grandparents before getting back in the car for our 4-hour drive back to the city. Again, I spent the first half of the ride doing some work before switching with Ben so he could do some work.

Once home, we chilled out on the couch watching Harry Potter while Cora slept THE WHOLE NIGHT (wooooo) and ordered in some food from D’Agostinos. Not the best, but we did have this cookie ice cream thing that was amazing. We spent the rest of the night preparing for Monday and hanging out on the couch.

Besides the driving, we had quite the quiet weekend which is just what I needed after a week of being super sick. What did you do this weekend?

Weekend Recap: Apartment Hunting

Annnnd it’s Monday again. Dangit!

My weekend was pretty fun, though it went by way too quickly (per usual). Friday night after work we had a summer boat bash on a yacht (crazyyyy) that was tons of fun.

Weekend Recap: Apartment HuntingBen was supposed to come, but he ended up not feeling well. πŸ™ I got home around 9 pm and hadn’t eaten yet, so I ordered some Postmates that was WAY overpriced.

Weekend Recap: Apartment HuntingSaturday we slept in a bit before heading over to Ben’s apartment for awhile, then to the grocery store. We started looking online at apartments with Ben’s current roommate, went and looked at a place that we all feel in love with and went to apply. Unfortunately we got the price wrong and it was $500/month MORE than was listed online so that went down the shoot quickly. The rest of the evening was spent playing with the puppy, watching Ben play video games and figuring out if we want to stay in Ben’s place or not.

Just for background – my lease is up in my (crappy) apartment on August 31 and so is Ben’s. Originally we had planned to stay in Ben’s apartment and his roommate would move out. I’m not in love with the area (close to transportation, but far away from other things like shopping, coffee, restaurants, groceries, etc.) so I’m not 100% in love with staying in the area. His place is okay, but if we can find something better we might look into it. However we only have a few more days to make that decision.

Sunday we slept in until 9ish, took Cora for a walk and then went and looked at an apartment (actually the same one we looked at on Saturday, just one-bedrooms this time) before leaving and knowing it just wasn’t the right place for us. We loved the location, but it was way too small and pricey. We walked from there to West Town Bakery so I could get some food (I had part of a BLT, fries and a coffee – nothing super great), grabbed Do-Rite donuts on the way back to the car and then headed back to Ben’s place to get Cora.

Weekend Recap: Apartment HuntingOnce home, Ben and I both grabbed our computers and started working since we hadn’t had any time to work yet. I started scheduling in social media posts for my client in Smarter Queue before hitting Padmapper.com again to look up more apartments. We sent in a few Β more emails before giving up for the day.

The rest of the afternoon was finishing up my website which is now live! I still have a few things I want to add to it and I’m sure it’ll be changing frequently, but I finally bit the bullet and got the bare necessities up. We celebrated with watching a documentary and cleaning up my apartment for the showings my leasing manager has tomorrow – wicked Sunday. πŸ™‚

What did you do this weekend?

Weekend Recap: Recovery Weekend

Woo, does summer kick anyone else’s bootay? I swear, I absolutely LOVE summer, but once it gets here, I feel so overwhelmed with things to do that I didn’t do the rest of the oh … 9 months of the year. πŸ™‚

Anyways, let’s chat about theΒ weekend!

On Friday, I worked from home because I was still trying to get over some sort of stomach bug. Ben thinks I’ve just worked myself into such an anxious tizzy that it’s actually THAT and not a flu. Either way, it was nice to work from home (I get so much more done!) + hang out with Cora all day. She’s the best assistant.

Weekend Recap: Recovery WeekendFriday night we hung out at Ben’s apartment and walked to get ice cream with his roommate at Jeni’s. I got dark chocolate and vanilla, which was really good, but I only ate half of it because I wasn’t trusting my stomach.

Weekend Recap: Recovery WeekendSaturday morning Ben went to work and I got Cora all corralled up in the car to go to the vet. She’s been sick for the last few weeks (eating a diet of rice and boiled chicken) plus she needed her second round of shots. We got another round of antibiotics, probiotics, a shot in the butt and strict directions on how to get her back on normal dog food. I think this dog has decided she wants to be like her human mama and have lots of stomach issues.

Once we got home, I had a little time alone with her, so while she napped, I watched my coach’s video – highly recommend!

Then Ben came over and we hung out with himΒ for the afternoon, taking a few walks (Cora still can’t go to public parks or around many dogs, which makes it difficult in the city) and hanging out on the couch.

Weekend Recap: Recovery Weekend
I MEAN, THAT FACE.

Ben suggested going out for dinner, so we walked to a new spot called La Scarola, a unique hole-in-the wall Italian spot for dinner. It was soΒ good! Plus, it was really nice to get out alone with Ben and have some quality time. Plus, two glasses of wine for this lightweight = me professing my love to him while sitting at dinner. Oh, alcohol. πŸ˜‰ At least it makes me lovey, right?

Weekend Recap: Recovery Weekend Weekend Recap: Recovery Weekend Weekend Recap: Recovery WeekendWe got home, played with Cora and watched Pitch Perfect 2 before heading to bed.

Sunday we woke up pretty late, played around with Cora (who was much less lethargic and ready to go CRAZY this morning) and took her for a walk. She loves Benjamin …

Weekend Recap: Recovery WeekendBen made me breakfast and then we headed off to Starbucks to get some work done. Since I was sick a bit, I barely got any work for my brand done (or for my clients), but take a look at my *started* website!

After SB, Ben and I made a quick stop at Pet Supplies Plus to pick up Cora some sensitive stomach food (plus a long leash so we can take her to a park after her next round of shots and a ball because PUPPY). Since we were close, we made a last-minute decision to stop at Jewel-Osco (a grocery store in the city) to pick up the fixins’ for burgers.

Weekend Recap: Recovery WeekendWe hung around at Ben’s place with Teressa (his roommate/cousin & my friend) for a few hours until she left for a BBQ. I showered at Ben’sΒ (since it’s now been a WEEK without gas at my apartment – my landlord is shi*), finished up some work for my client, Brittney, and then wrote up this blog post while Ben played some video games.

The rest of the evening was spent getting things organized for my week and scheduled out – it’s going to be a busy week! I’m going to try to get back into early morning workouts + YouTube + a blogging schedule + work schedule + full-time job … and this week is Ben’s birthday and I have a few commitments after work! Going to be a busy one.

How was your weekend?
What are your goals for this week?

Long Weekend Recap: A sick pup & Jessie

I can’t believe how much I’ve been failing at sticking to a schedule with my blog! Life has been nuts and Cora has been sick basically for the last three weeks. All excuses, but wanted to let you all know what’s been up! Looking to get back into the groove of things here ASAP.

Anyways, I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday and the long weekend is over. Did any of you do wonderful, fun things for the holiday?

Last Friday I went to a conference for work which ended up being pretty interested, but I’m so bad at LONG conferences, especially if I’m just being talked to and not interacted with. Lots of good nuggets of info, but I started drifting off after lunch.

Long Weekend Recap

Thankfully I had a pretty walk home. πŸ™‚

Long Weekend Recap

I had a pretty killer headache by the end of the day, so I got home, laid around with Ben and Cora and then headed out to a local Irish bar for some fish and chips.

Long Weekend Recap

Look good, but the taste was not there.

The rest of the night was spent dealing with Cora because her stomach issues were acting up again and she was up all night. πŸ’©

Long Weekend Recap

If any of you have ever had a sick animal (or child), you know how frustrating it can be. The vet doesn’t seem to be worried, but she’s just not doing super hot.

Saturday morning was rough after a night with Cora, so we got a late start and unfortunately got stuck in quite a bit of traffic on our way up north to Ben’s grandparents’ cabin. Thankfully it was worth it once we got there.

Long Weekend Recap Long Weekend Recap Long Weekend Recap

One of the best parts about being up there is that I don’t have my phone on me, hence only having photos from when Ben and I went on the boat. Basically we hung out with the fam on Saturday afternoon and went to fireworks that night. Sunday we played around on the boat, did some fun games outside and celebrated his grandpa’s birthday. We left around 8 pm and got home around 11.

Thankfully we still had two more days off! Both Ben and I took off Monday to extend our weekends. We slept in, hung out with Cora and headed to Shake Shack for lunch + went to the movies to see Despicable Me 3 – which I cry-laughed at pretty much the whole time. πŸ˜‰

Ben wasn’t feeling well, so we headed back home after stopping quick at Trader Joe’s to pick up some chicken to cook for Cora (strict rice + boiled chicken diet for her right now). I came home to a wonderful note that my gas had been turned off and unfortunately it won’t be turned back on until my landlord fixes a bunch of stuff in my place. Should be fun with no hot water and stove. #CanIMoveYet?

Tuesday we woke up late again and came over to Ben’s since maintenance was supposed to be coming over to fix the issues (which they didn’t). Ben made me breakfast and I felt pretty queasy after eating it even though it was just eggs and ham. We hung around the apartment, I ran to Starbucks and played with the pup. I was in a really weird tired/cranky mood that I couldn’t seem to shake. I ate lunch and all hell broke loose. I got so extremely sick to my stomach – nausea, light-headed, sweating, etc. So the rest of the afternoon I prettty much didn’t move from the couch.

Today I went to work, but ended up going home around noon to work from home due to light-headedness and nausea. Hopefully this is all gone by tomorrow because I have a presentation for work!

How do you deal with a sick puppy/child?

Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago!

Monday is back, which for me means … Weekend Recap time!

Friday was a pretty slow day, so I was able to leave right at 4:30 to pick my sister, Jenny, up from the train from Milwaukee. I currently work right next to Union Station, so it wasn’t too difficult to find her! We walked to the other train stop and took that back to my place to play with Cora (and Ben lol)!

Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago! After a little bit of playing, we headed over to Giordano’s for some “deep dish pizza” or so we thought. Apparently we don’t know what deep dish is, though, so we technically got a “stuffed” pizza – still good!

Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago!
We ended up being there for awhile, so we headed back to my apartment to play with Cora. She had been sick all week, so we didn’t want to leave her alone for too long. It ended up being an early night for us since we were all so tired.

Ben left pretty early for work, so Jenny, Cora and I hung out a bit before Jenny and I took a Lyft over to Whisk.

Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago! Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago! After Whisk, we walked over to Stan’s Donuts to grab a few to go before taking the train back home.

Once back home, we played with the puppy for awhile until Ben got home. We then all (minus pup – booo) headed out to the Lincoln Park Zoo.

Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago! Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago! Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago! Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago!
We spent a couple hours there, which was super fun! The park is free, but parking is SO expensive. We decided to take advantage of it and walked to RJ Grunts for dinner. Ben and I shared a burger and fish and chips. Burger was definitely the way to go!

I thought the burger was great, but it was SO crowded in there and everything was shoved together. Worked out though – just an extremely long dining experience.

After dinner, we walked over to Mollie’s Cupcakes to grab some to-go. Ben loves cupcakes (well, all sweets really) so he was excited.

Once home we ate the cupcakes and played with the baby Cora.Β I don’t love cupcakes, so I only ate half of it and gave the rest to Ben. We hung out on the couch, before Ben, Cora and I headed to bed. We were all so exhausted from walking ALL day!

Sunday we all slept in a bit before heading up to Rhyme or Reason, a brunch place Ben and I have been dying to try out and it LIVED UP to what we were hoping for! Ben and I shared a Bloody Mary, which had a sweetness to it that was SUPER good.

Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago!
Then came out the big guys – I got Fried Chicken & DONUTS. Oh. My. Gosh.

Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago! The donuts were super fluffy and wonderful. I loved it and devoured it, though I did share a little with Ben. πŸ™‚

When we left, I actually saw Taylor of The Daily Tay outside, so I stopped and said hey to her. I didn’t realize how many bloggers and Instagrammers I follow that live in the city. I saw a fashion Instagrammer I follow last weekend, but she was SUPER busy with her kids, so I didn’t bug her.

Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago! Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago!
It was about a two-mile walk, so we forced Jenny to walk home (she’s not used to walking everywhere like we are – we had to stop and buy her tennis shoes on Saturday so she could make it through the day!) It was nice to get in some movement, though. We spent the rest of the early afternoon playing with Cora and hanging out before talking Jenny to her 3:15 train.

Then it was WORK TIME! Ben and I had put aside work all weekend which is much needed sometimes, but since Cora was sick all week, we had tons of work built up. We headed off to Starbucks until about 7 pm to get some work done (and I started this blog). Before we left, we order Thai from Opart Thai (our favorite Thai place) and grabbed that on our way home. My neck was killing me, so my lovely boyfriend gave me a massage before getting some more work done. So grateful to him for helping me host the sister all weekend, but he definitely had a crazy busy night.

Weekend Recap: Sister Visits Chicago!Oh, hey Cora. πŸ˜‰

While I lovvvvve going out to eat, this week is going to be a “get back on track” week. Not only am I running out of money haha, I’m just feeling awful physically. I have barely worked out + going out to eat / ordering food for almost a week and my body is OVER IT. Time to get back on track! I’m hoping to get to a grocery store or something tomorrow night. I’d love to go to Trader Joe’s, but I’d have to drive there and that TERRIFIES ME (driving in the city is scary, dude!). We’ll see – I might just stop at a random grocery store and try to beg Benjamin to take me to Trader Joe’s a different day. πŸ˜‰

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I’m off to another full week of work, then off Saturday-Tuesday in Wisconsin at Ben’s grandparents’ cabin and I’m excited for some true chill time.

Oh, oh, oh! Fun fact – I have been building a website for my VA business! Can’t wait to share it with you guys. πŸ™‚

Weekend Recap: Sleepy Pup = DO ALL THE THINGS

How is it Monday already? Am I right, or am.i.right. Sorry for the lack of posts this past week but WOW having a puppy is hard work. It’s been an exhausting week to say the least.

So, let’s start with Friday. After work, I took the train home and met Ben and Cora for dinner. Cora was being super sassy, so Ben and I ate dinner while she calmed down. A little bit later, we headed over to Cone to get some ice cream.

After ice cream, we headed over to Mariano’s (a local grocery store) to pick up my prescriptions and a few odds and ends. One of those being this Fairlife Chocolate Milk, which I did not know existed until Ben pointed it out to me. Lactose-free?! Yay! Plus, Cora approves. πŸ˜‰

PLUS, we found peonies (my favorite flower everevereverever) and Ben bought me some. πŸ™‚

Once we got home, we cuddled up with the pup for the rest of the night and ended our night.

Saturday Ben woke up early with the puppy (thank GOD for him, because I struggle with mornings). He put her back to bed and took off to meet his clients, so Cora and I woke up and headed off to the vet! She did very well in the car and the vet, so I was pretty proud of her. She absolutely loves people, so she’s adorable when people are paying attention to her.

We got home, ate and hung out until Ben came over after work. Cora was super lethargic from her shots, so Ben and I took advantage of that and headed over to Taste of Randolph.

We tried out Bombo Bar’s Cooler Chocolate, which was incredible and then walked through the crowds for a bit more before deciding we’d rather head to a restaurant instead of eating a meal at vendors.

While walking out, we got caught in a crazy downpour – worked out because it cooled us down a bit!

Once we got home, we brought Cora outside to go to the bathroom and she fell back asleep, so we didn’t feel bad leaving her again for dinner. This time we ran out to Little Bad Wolf for a burger and a quick drink.

We went pretty early (around 5 pm) so we didn’t have a wait, which was nice. The burger was reallllllly good and the fries were incredible. Highly recommend, and I’m not a huge “burger” girl.

Obviously the lighting was not optimal, but you get the point. πŸ˜‰

On the ride home, Ben made the quick decision to pop off an exit and go sit down by the lake while the sun set. He really does know the way to my heart … or at least the best way to chill me out!

The rest of the night we hung out with the pup while watching Madagascar 3. We ended up going to bed pretty early, which was a pretty successful day.

Sunday we slept in a bit (well, after Ben got up with Cora around 6:30 to take her out) before we headed out to The Breakfast Club for a “Father’s Day” breakfast since Ben is now a puppy dad. πŸ˜‰ Ben got chicken and waffles, while I got a California Benedict (with the sauce on the side because #lactoseintolerant). Not a super trendy place, but it was still good!

After breakfast, we quickly picked up his sister and headed out to the ‘burbs with Cora. I’m sad I didn’t get to see my dad on this Father’s Day, but unfortunately that’s the price I pay for living in a different state. I hung out with Ben’s family for a bit before heading off to Starbucks to get a little bit of work done. Of course once I got there, I realized I forgot half the stuff I needed to do in my rush to get out the door this morning, so it was a quick trip.

Once back at the house, we all had dinner and continued to wear out the pup.

We got in the car and Cora PASSED OUT. She slept pretty much the whole way home.

Once home, she got a little antsy (my neighbors constantly play loud music so she thought she should be outside playing) so we put her in her crate to calm down and she passed out again.

And that’s pretty much my weekend!

How was your weekend? Did you celebrate Father’s Day?

Weekend Recap: Meet Cora

My weekend was centered around one thing – or puppy – as you might guess. πŸ™‚ Friday night after work, Ben and I got sushi before heading to Target to do one last big haul (+ an AC unit because my apartment is unreasonably hot) and headed to bed. We didn’t get much sleep.

Saturday we woke up at 5:45, grabbed a few things and got out the door. We made a few pit stops along the way, but after a few hours of driving … we met Cora.

Cora is our 9.5 week old golden retriever puppy if you haven’t been following me lately and had no idea we were getting a puppy. And yesterday we picked her up!

After that, we headed about 25-miles east to Ben’s grandparents to spend some time with her (and his g-parents) before heading back to Illinois.

Yes, she’s as sweet as she looks. πŸ™‚

We left a few hours later, made a quick pit stop and then headed to Ben’s parent’s house for another little break. We were super lucky because Cora basically slept the entire time we were in the car.

The three of us finally made it back to Chicago around 7:30, and then my friendsSaige, Joel and Jeffrey all showed up to see her as well. SO popular.

After they left, Ben and I ordered pizza and salad and he tried to figure out how he’d need to install my AC unit. Cora wanted to be close, of course.

Saturday night was a bit rough. We’re crate-training her PLUS potty-training, so there were a few accidents and some restlessness. She woke us up around 1 am, 5 am and then 7 am. I was so exhausted that Ben let me sleep some more and I got up around 8:30.

We got up, moved over to Ben’s apartment to eat and hang out for the morning/early afternoon.

There wereΒ a nap and a few bathroom accidents in there, too. Β back to my apartment

Then back to my apartment. We were going to bring her to the park, but it was 90+ degrees outside and she was so hot, so instead we spent some time putting in the AC unit (meaning Ben did it and Cora and I watched).

The rest of the afternoon was spent being lazy and trying not to fall asleep constantly (which was difficult).

And that was our first weekend with Cora!

How was your weekend?
Any puppy advice for us newbies?

What We Did In Nashville

Ahhh, vacation.

More like …

AHHHHH VACATION

Amiright or amiright?

So anyways, that’s my excuse for you getting a weekend recap/Nashville recap on Wednesday. πŸ˜‰

Let’s go back to last Thursday, shall we?

On Thursday, I ended up getting stuck at work about a half hour late because some stuff blew up on Facebook. I got to the gym around 5:15 and then got a call from my boss and then got in my workout. By the time I got home, I was pooped, but I self tanned and packed up my stuff for Nashville.

Friday was here before we knew it! We were up pretty early and made it to pick up Ben’s friend Adam to take along for the ride. I’ll spare you the details of the ride – it was 8+ hours in the car so… lots of snacks, talking and music.

We made it to Nashville around 7ish and got into our cute Air BnB.

And that’s literally the only picture I took because I took a bunch of video for Snapchat & Instagram. If you’ve followed me for awhile, I’m pretty famous (LIES) for doing “Hotel Tours” from my traveling event planning days, so this time I did an Air BnB tour. Hopefully you saw it, because it was the cutest Air BnB ever!

After messing around the house a bit, we took off to meet up with the rest of the friends (we were staying with a total of 5 other people) at The Pharmacy for dinner. Of course, no photos, because I was not feeling well at all, but did manage to get half a burger down. Super good, just not feeling well! Since we went to Nashville for a wedding, we met up with the rest of the people in town at a bar for a quick drink before heading back to the house.

Saturday we all slept in a tiny bit before four of us headed out to Sky Blue Cafe for brunch. There was a 45 min-1 hr wait, but we decided to risk it. 1.5 hours later we finally got a seat … but it was worth it!

I got the Lo’s Bowl (minus the cheese) which was potatoes, peppers, tomato, onion, spinach and egg. Topped it with hot sauce and it was SO good.

The table shared this beauty. It was Stuffed French Toast PB&J Pancakes. What?

Basically it was a pancake –> jam/PB –> French toast –> jam/PB –> pancake, etc.

SO GOOD.

After brunch, Ben and I headed to the Grand Ole Opry to meet up with my friend Angela who lives in Nashville. She let us go through a quick tour, then we chatted with her on some of the best places to go while there. So great to see her!

We headed home after that and got ready for the wedding.

We clean up pretty well. πŸ™‚

The wedding was literally a block away at the East Ivy Mansion and it was beautiful. Instead of describing it, here’s a bunch of pictures of the fun we had!Β  And literally my favorite photo of ALL time …

<3

Dinner was Southern BBQ and I had one sangria-type drink – it helps that both Ben and I aren’t huge drinkers, so we both were fine cutting out the alcohol for the night. We stayed and hung out with everyone, but ended up leaving around 10:30 pm to get back home because we were super exhausted from the sun and crazy day.

On Sunday we all slept in a bit, but Ben and I headed out for brunch at Butcher and Bee. I got Avocado Crunchy Rice and it was AMAZING.

We then headed out (into the rain, I might add) to The Soda Parlor for a sweet treat.

After our brunch, we headed back to the house and laid around for a bit (no one else was home). Once the lazy time was up (and the rain stopped), we headed to Centennial Park to see the Parthenon.

On our way back, we got a text from the rest of the group that they were hanging out at a bar not too far from us, so we stopped by to hang out with them before heading to dinner at Martin’s BBQ. My food doesn’t look super appetizing, but trust me – it was amazing. I had brisket tacos, french friends and beans and OMGYUM.

We headed to Broadway to get in some live music to top off our night.

Monday we woke up pretty early, went to breakfast at the Blue Sky Cafe again and then headed out around 10. We got back into the city around 7:30 and then Ben and I postmated some Portillos and called it a night.

That was our weekend! Have you ever been to Nashville? What did you think?

Weekend Recap: Becoming a Wisconsin “Shacker”

Okay, unless you’re from my hometown in tiny little NEWI, you have no idea what a shacker is. To make a long story short, we had a TON of “city people” that would inundate our town during the summer and hunting season for vacation and stay in their “shacks” or cabins – most of which were bigger than our permanent homes. We weren’t exactly loving towards these “shackers” as we called them, because they’d clear out our grocery store and basically use the country roads like they were downtown Chicago. I hated them.

I’ve now become one.

… and I’m okay with it. πŸ™‚

So, Friday was a super slow day at work. I scheduled a few posts, but for the most part no one was online chatting with us so I didn’t have a ton to respond to. I left at 4:30 and got in an upper body workout before heading to the train to get home. It was POURING and gross out, so I was ready to hole up for the rest of the night.

Picture quality is awful ^^ but it was literally pouring SO badly I’m still using the pic so you can see my struggle. πŸ˜‰

I headed over to Ben’s apartment because I have no food, so I made him asked him to make me tacos. After tacos, we headed out to the suburbs to quickly hit Victoria’s Secret’s 7 for $28 underwear sale and then off to a hockey scrimmage Ben and his brother were playing in. It was a super fun night and we ended up crashing immediately as soon as we got home.

We got up early-ish on Saturday, packed up our stuff, ate a quick breakfast and headed up to Wisconsin. Ben’s grandparents live in Florida for about 8 months out of the year, but they move up to their house in western Wisconsin for the summer months. We got up to the house around 2 pm (after hitting loads of random traffic), had lunch with the fam and Ben and I set out to go fishing (note: Ben fished, I laid on the boat and screamed when I saw a huge fish coming at the boat so…)

After a few hours of that, we headed back in to have a bloody mary (yum), have some dinner and hang out with everyone. My allergies went nuts and I had such a crazy bad headache. We watched a movie, but by the time we went to bed, I was basically in tears from the pain. No fun!

My headache had subsided in the morning, but was still lingering so after a quick breakfast, Ben and I headed into the town to pick up some allergy medication and I felt so.much.better.

After our little trip, we spent the rest of the afternoon getting to know the g-parents (first time we’ve met and they’re the BEST), playing some track ball, climbing on railroads (aka me freaking out that there’d be a train at any minute and being too afraid to climb over the water. You know, the usual ‘Sconnie stuff. πŸ˜‰

I had so much fun. I always wondered why people enjoyed coming to my hometown (mostly because I hated it growing up) but I can totally understand in this instance. It was relaxing, no crazy sirens or tons of cars… we played in the backyard with the pup and just spent the weekend chatting and enjoying the weather. It’s going to be so much fun when we have our puppy (less than two weeks!!!) and can bring her there.

We stuck around a little longer than originally expected and left around 6. We stopped outside of Madison to get a quick Chipotle bite and then drove back to Chicago. The rest of the night was spent showering, freaking out because I found a tick on me (EEW) and passing out from a fun, but exhausting weekend.

Since today is Memorial Day, I’ve got the day off. Ben and I are currently at Starbucks doing a few things and then I’m not sure what we’ll get up to. This week is going to be quite crazy. We work tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday and then leave for Nashville on Friday morning until Monday night. Should be a quick week!

How was your weekend?
