What We Did In Nashville

Ahhh, vacation.

More like …

AHHHHH VACATION

Amiright or amiright?

So anyways, that’s my excuse for you getting a weekend recap/Nashville recap on Wednesday. 😉

Let’s go back to last Thursday, shall we?

On Thursday, I ended up getting stuck at work about a half hour late because some stuff blew up on Facebook. I got to the gym around 5:15 and then got a call from my boss and then got in my workout. By the time I got home, I was pooped, but I self tanned and packed up my stuff for Nashville.

Friday was here before we knew it! We were up pretty early and made it to pick up Ben’s friend Adam to take along for the ride. I’ll spare you the details of the ride – it was 8+ hours in the car so… lots of snacks, talking and music.

We made it to Nashville around 7ish and got into our cute Air BnB.

And that’s literally the only picture I took because I took a bunch of video for Snapchat & Instagram. If you’ve followed me for awhile, I’m pretty famous (LIES) for doing “Hotel Tours” from my traveling event planning days, so this time I did an Air BnB tour. Hopefully you saw it, because it was the cutest Air BnB ever!

After messing around the house a bit, we took off to meet up with the rest of the friends (we were staying with a total of 5 other people) at The Pharmacy for dinner. Of course, no photos, because I was not feeling well at all, but did manage to get half a burger down. Super good, just not feeling well! Since we went to Nashville for a wedding, we met up with the rest of the people in town at a bar for a quick drink before heading back to the house.

Saturday we all slept in a tiny bit before four of us headed out to Sky Blue Cafe for brunch. There was a 45 min-1 hr wait, but we decided to risk it. 1.5 hours later we finally got a seat … but it was worth it!

I got the Lo’s Bowl (minus the cheese) which was potatoes, peppers, tomato, onion, spinach and egg. Topped it with hot sauce and it was SO good.

The table shared this beauty. It was Stuffed French Toast PB&J Pancakes. What?

Basically it was a pancake –> jam/PB –> French toast –> jam/PB –> pancake, etc.

SO GOOD.

After brunch, Ben and I headed to the Grand Ole Opry to meet up with my friend Angela who lives in Nashville. She let us go through a quick tour, then we chatted with her on some of the best places to go while there. So great to see her!

We headed home after that and got ready for the wedding.

We clean up pretty well. 🙂

The wedding was literally a block away at the East Ivy Mansion and it was beautiful. Instead of describing it, here’s a bunch of pictures of the fun we had!  And literally my favorite photo of ALL time …

<3

Dinner was Southern BBQ and I had one sangria-type drink – it helps that both Ben and I aren’t huge drinkers, so we both were fine cutting out the alcohol for the night. We stayed and hung out with everyone, but ended up leaving around 10:30 pm to get back home because we were super exhausted from the sun and crazy day.

On Sunday we all slept in a bit, but Ben and I headed out for brunch at Butcher and Bee. I got Avocado Crunchy Rice and it was AMAZING.

We then headed out (into the rain, I might add) to The Soda Parlor for a sweet treat.

After our brunch, we headed back to the house and laid around for a bit (no one else was home). Once the lazy time was up (and the rain stopped), we headed to Centennial Park to see the Parthenon.

On our way back, we got a text from the rest of the group that they were hanging out at a bar not too far from us, so we stopped by to hang out with them before heading to dinner at Martin’s BBQ. My food doesn’t look super appetizing, but trust me – it was amazing. I had brisket tacos, french friends and beans and OMGYUM.

We headed to Broadway to get in some live music to top off our night.

Monday we woke up pretty early, went to breakfast at the Blue Sky Cafe again and then headed out around 10. We got back into the city around 7:30 and then Ben and I postmated some Portillos and called it a night.

That was our weekend! Have you ever been to Nashville? What did you think?

Weekend Recap: Becoming a Wisconsin “Shacker”

Okay, unless you’re from my hometown in tiny little NEWI, you have no idea what a shacker is. To make a long story short, we had a TON of “city people” that would inundate our town during the summer and hunting season for vacation and stay in their “shacks” or cabins – most of which were bigger than our permanent homes. We weren’t exactly loving towards these “shackers” as we called them, because they’d clear out our grocery store and basically use the country roads like they were downtown Chicago. I hated them.

I’ve now become one.

… and I’m okay with it. 🙂

So, Friday was a super slow day at work. I scheduled a few posts, but for the most part no one was online chatting with us so I didn’t have a ton to respond to. I left at 4:30 and got in an upper body workout before heading to the train to get home. It was POURING and gross out, so I was ready to hole up for the rest of the night.

Picture quality is awful ^^ but it was literally pouring SO badly I’m still using the pic so you can see my struggle. 😉

I headed over to Ben’s apartment because I have no food, so I made him asked him to make me tacos. After tacos, we headed out to the suburbs to quickly hit Victoria’s Secret’s 7 for $28 underwear sale and then off to a hockey scrimmage Ben and his brother were playing in. It was a super fun night and we ended up crashing immediately as soon as we got home.

We got up early-ish on Saturday, packed up our stuff, ate a quick breakfast and headed up to Wisconsin. Ben’s grandparents live in Florida for about 8 months out of the year, but they move up to their house in western Wisconsin for the summer months. We got up to the house around 2 pm (after hitting loads of random traffic), had lunch with the fam and Ben and I set out to go fishing (note: Ben fished, I laid on the boat and screamed when I saw a huge fish coming at the boat so…)

After a few hours of that, we headed back in to have a bloody mary (yum), have some dinner and hang out with everyone. My allergies went nuts and I had such a crazy bad headache. We watched a movie, but by the time we went to bed, I was basically in tears from the pain. No fun!

My headache had subsided in the morning, but was still lingering so after a quick breakfast, Ben and I headed into the town to pick up some allergy medication and I felt so.much.better.

After our little trip, we spent the rest of the afternoon getting to know the g-parents (first time we’ve met and they’re the BEST), playing some track ball, climbing on railroads (aka me freaking out that there’d be a train at any minute and being too afraid to climb over the water. You know, the usual ‘Sconnie stuff. 😉

I had so much fun. I always wondered why people enjoyed coming to my hometown (mostly because I hated it growing up) but I can totally understand in this instance. It was relaxing, no crazy sirens or tons of cars… we played in the backyard with the pup and just spent the weekend chatting and enjoying the weather. It’s going to be so much fun when we have our puppy (less than two weeks!!!) and can bring her there.

We stuck around a little longer than originally expected and left around 6. We stopped outside of Madison to get a quick Chipotle bite and then drove back to Chicago. The rest of the night was spent showering, freaking out because I found a tick on me (EEW) and passing out from a fun, but exhausting weekend.

Since today is Memorial Day, I’ve got the day off. Ben and I are currently at Starbucks doing a few things and then I’m not sure what we’ll get up to. This week is going to be quite crazy. We work tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday and then leave for Nashville on Friday morning until Monday night. Should be a quick week!

How was your weekend?
